Find your Wings art journal spread

This is another spread in my art journal.  I used spray inks for the background color.  The dots are made with a The Crafter's Workshop template and Liquitex flexible modeling paste.  The insects are Dina Wakley stamps stamped on old computer punch cards.  Thanks for coming by my blog.

1954 Dreams Art Journal Spread

I recently scanned in some photos from my Mom's wedding album.  Here's an art journal spread using some of the photos.  I used different stencils, paints, gesso,  and white tulle glued down in the background.  The photo of my Mom was printed on cotton fabric.  I had fun making this!  Thanks for coming by my blog!

January Art Journal Page Swap - side two - Stacked Birds

This is the back side of the "Secrets" page in the previous post. I used the Dina Wakely Scribbly Birds stamp set.  The background uses stencils by The Crafter's Workshop, Tim Holtz and Stencil Girl.  The white hearts were made with modeling paste and a Tim Holtz Layering Stencil. I painted the birds with acrylic paint and outlined them with a Stabilio All pencil.  The hearts/circles were cut out of vintage sheet music, painted in the centers, and the painted area was outlined with a Stabilio All pencil.  After I glued them down, I outlined them again with the same pencil.  The stamped words were also highlighted with the Stabilio All pencil.  When I had everything glued down, I splattered the blue paint across the page.  Thanks for coming by my blog!

January Art Journal Page Swap

At the Collage Stuff Yahoo Group, we're doing an art journal page swap starting in January.  We will each do one page (front and back) from a loose leaf bound journal and send it on.  This is for Laurie and her theme was something like bugs, butterflies and insects.  So there are butterflies on here! I drew this face on the background it was hard to see the sketch lines that I had drawn. I had fun creating this page.  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Faces Art Journal - Faces #12

I sketched out these 2 faces last week and the proportions are off.  Way off!  That's OK, because flowers make everyone beautiful!  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Faces Art Journal - Face 11

This is Face 11.  Last night I had the face painted and I made weird hair.  The weird hair had to go.  When something doesn't go as planned, I'm usually pretty good at turning this "mistake" around.  I don't like calling an art experiment that doesn't go as planned a "mistake".  I believe that when something doesn't come out as planned that it's a challenge to turn into something that I like.  So here's what I ended up with.  I love Dali's women that have flowers for their entire head.  I like to make hair  out of flowers.  The entire top of the page is the woman's hair.  Sometimes I think she looks dark, but she's really got sort of a smirk.  It makes me wonder what she's thinking.  I am truly enjoying trying to learn to draw and paint faces.  I don't want to make photo realistic faces - just interesting faces. I always say that I can't draw, but I'm learning.  Thanks for coming by my blog

Faces Art Journal - Face 8

I watched a couple of Dina Wakely videos at You Tube today.  Here's the result.  It doesn't look like her art at all!  I'm going to practice on this kind of face and see what I can do with it.  I do like the eyes and the way nose came out.  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Faces Art Journal - Face Seven

Here is Face Seven in my Faces Art Journal.  I used washi tape for her hair.  I cut the "bangs" kind of like I wear my own bangs.  The blue washi tape for the bulk of the hair has numbers printed on it.  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Faces Art Journal - Face 6

This is face 6 in my faces art journal.  When I sketched this face, I thought it was not attractive.  After I painted it, I find it to be more or less attractive.  The color made her come alive!  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Here's Face Five with some rub-ons added and doodling in the background.

Random Painted Faces

The photo above is the same hand-drawn image painted 3 different ways.  I drew the girl, scanned her in, printed her out and painted her different ways.  They all look different.  Fun!  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Faces Art Journal - Face One

I am starting a new art journal to practice painting faces.  I'm challenging myself to paint faces.  The journal has 22 pages so I'm shooting for 44 new faces.  I'm excited about this new journey!  I highly recommend Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's "All About Faces" video. I used the Dylusions Journaling Block to make the lines in the background.  The background is actually yellow, but looks yellow-green in the photo.  Thanks for coming by my blog!  Stay tuned for more faces!

Try Now art journal page

Today I decided I would continue on with the face painting experiment.  I'm encouraged again to keep trying!  Thanks for coming by the blog!

You'll Never Know Art Journal Page

I can't draw.  I've had a DVD from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer around for a while "All About Faces."  I watched it last night and decided to give it a go! The tag on this spread is the second face I tried to paint.  It's not great art, but at least you can tell it's a face!  I am encouraged to continue experimenting and trying to draw/paint faces.  Thanks for coming by the blog!

Season's Tweetings variation

Here's a variation on my original Season's Tweetings Christmas card.  Red glitter paper!  I think I like this card better than the red one.  Thanks for coming by my blog.

Season's Tweetings Shaker Card

At the Collage Stuff Yahoo Group, our November swap is a Christmas greeting card swap.  I love the Lawn Fawn Winter Sparrows stamps.  I got the matching die cuts.  I decided I was using these stamps and got it into my head I wanted to do a shaker card.  I researched shaker cards.  Here's what I came up with!   I used a Martha Stewart punch for the big snowflakes and coated them with Rock Candy Distress Glitter.  The shaker card snowflakes are sequins.  Wow!  It's a lot of work to make a card like this.  ACK!  I like the end result though!  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Flower Power art journal page

For this spread, almost everything is Dylusions - the flower, skull  and alphabet stamps, leaf stencil, and ink spray.  If you use the Dylusions spray inks over a gesso'd surface, they are muted, very muted.  The gesso sort of acts like a resist to the ink spray.  I used a Dina Wakely stencil in the background.  The dots and rings are made with an Ellen Hutson stamp set. I used Posca pens, glitter Sharpies and Stamper's Big Brush pens to color in the stamped images. Some of the flowers and skulls are popped up using Ranger foam adhesive. I had fun making this!  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Faces art journal page

I bought a couple of magazines yesterday at the grocery and when I got home, I started cutting out images.  I bought fashion magazines, but I need to pick up some other kinds.  I recently took the Dyan Reavely and Dina Wakely Back to Back class.  Dyan used magazine images in the class.  I assembled the images that I wanted to use first.  The face on the "awaken page" was really too big for this size journal.  I could have scanned it in and printed it smaller, but I wanted to just use the original magazine images. For the background I used a Stencil Girl Stencil first.  I stamped 2 whole sheets of deli paper with a Dyan Reavely alphabet stamp and heat embossed them with black embossing powder. The deli paper is sort of transparent and allowed the stenciling to show through a little.  After applying the deli paper to the pages, I started gluing down the images.  I used Posca fine point paint pens to add details. The butterflies on both pages did not come from the magazines.  Thanks for coming by my blog!

Just Go Play Art Journal Spread

I love color, paint and stencils.  Sometimes I go a bit overboard with too many different colors and patterns.  I used stencils from The Crafter's Workshop and Stencil Girl for this spread.  I started by applying acrylic paint using a palette knife in the background.  Then I got out the stencils and used black paint.  I used modeling paste in a few places with a stencil.  I made a few drips with an off-white acrylic paint.  I had fun making these pages!  Thanks for coming by my blog.  Leave a comment if you like!
